Unfortunately not my interest area. The grouping comprising the following. Distinguished Conduct Medal (DCM) , correctly impressed to 307 SJT. 1914-15 Star, correctly impressed to. British War Medal correctly impressed 2/LIEUT. Also comes with his original Gallipoli Plaque (issued 1967), this is correctly engraved in the known original style C. Also a small “21st Battalion Association” badge. Lots of copy photographs of Willis as an enlisted soldier. Later as an officer as well during and after the war with comrades – you can pick Willis as he is proudly wearing his medals including the DCM. Also comes with 3 original metal wound stripes with backing plates and pins (Willis was wounded in action three times). Willis survived the sinking of the troopship “Southland” which was on its way to Gallipoli when sunk. Approximately 20 soldiers from the 21st Battalion were killed in this sinking (by an Austrian submarine). The survivors continued on to Gallipoli where Willis served for approximately 4 months, leaving at the evacuation. He then proceeded to France. After Passchendaele, he was – according to his notes, … Birdwood in the Field, later in England presented with medal [DCM] at a Decoration Parade in Cambridge, by G. ” 1739 DCMs to Australians according to Johnson’s’Australian’s Awarded”. Ceramic’ in late 1918. In WW2, the’Ceramic’ was sunk by German Submarine’U505′. This very submarine is now in the Chicago Science Museum. Comes with many different copies of “The Red and Black Diamond”, the newsletter of the 21st Battalion all the way up to the late 1980s. Also, a copy (1/100) of “The Story of the Twenty-First”. Also copies of his service records and copies of pages of his diary. The Citation for the DCM is a good one:.. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty when in charge of his company after all the officers had become casualties. They dug themselves in on the second objective, and firmly established their part of the line. Though wounded in the head, he remained on duty until the battalion was relieved. (LG dated 6th February 1918). These Medals – including naming – (in other words – all aspects of them) are guaranteed. Not mucked around with at all. See my very good feedback. Offered is a WW1 Royal Field Artillery. Distinguished Conduct Medal &. Italian Bronze Medal for Military Valour. Group of 5 to Bombardier Francis Houchin. King George V Distinguished Conduct medal, impressed named 74672 GNR:-A. Copy 1914 Star engraved named 74672 GNR: F. British War Medal & Victory Medal impressed named 74672 CPL. & Italian Bronze Medal for Military Valour, un-named as issued. Medals court mounted for display and come with a period framed 4th Division card commending 74672 Bomb- F. Dated 22/10/17 and signed by Div Commander and a small pocket/fob watch clasp knife. Paperwork includes copies of medal index card, medal roll, DCM medal card, London Gazette DCM & Medal for Military Valour, Royal Artillery discharge record, 1911 Census, Trade union list & copy newspaper article Wounded in Action 1915. PDF 32nd Bde War Diary available on request. Francis Raymond Houchin was born in 1889, at Crewe. He enlisted into the regular Army on the 28/10/1913 to the Royal Artillery and his occupation is recorded as Wagon Maker. He landed in France with the 15. Division on the 19/8/1914. Division was involved in the desperate fighting of 1914, including The Battle of Mons and subsequent retreat, The Battle of Le Cateau, The Battle of the Marne, The Battle of the Aisne, The Battles of La Bassee and Messines & The First Battle of Ypres. Second Battle of Ypres and the Capture of Hill 60. The Sheffield Daily Telegraph 15/6/1915 lists him as being wounded in action. The nature or severity of the wound is unknown. It is possible that on recovering from his injuries he was posted to 134th Battery 32nd Brigade 4th Division. His Divisional Gallantry Card is dated 22/10/1917 and it is believed this was issued prior to being nominated for the DCM incident. The diary records on the 31/10/15′Heavy Gas casualties’ on the 27th and 134th, casualties approx. 6 Officers (1 Killed) and 19 other ranks. Houchin’s citation reads: For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. When a gas shell wrecked the officers dug out and all the occupants became casualties, he showed great coolness and determination as one of the rescue party, working under heavy fire and in spite of gas fumes. On the following morning, though suffering from gas, he manned a gun with the only other man available and fired a bombardment program made out for the whole battery. His splendid courage and determination enabled the battery to remain in action and carry out its tasks during a most important period of the operations. For the same action, Lt. Henry James Ivens, R. (WIA in the incident) MC citation reads: For. Conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. When a gas shell struck his dug-out, killing, wounding, or gassing all the occupants, he assisted in recovering the wounded and then went to the dressing station. While there his battery commander was brought in. Realising that no officer was left at the battery he re-joined it and took command until taken away in an unconscious condition. Brigade War Diary records on the 24/11/1917 that he has been awarded the DCM. This was the 3. Battle of Ypres (Passchendaele). The war diary for this period is full of fire missions, receiving counter battery fire and gas attacks by the Germans. A hard fought campaign for not just the infantry. He was also awarded the Italian Medal for Military Valour (Bronze) being gazetted in the London Gazette 12/9/1918. During WW1, 365 Silver & 954 Bronze awards were given to members of the Commonwealth forces. He transferred to’B Class’ reserve on 27/11/1919. He was mobilised 11/1/1921 – 8/6/1921 to assist with the Miners Strike. The Royal Artillery records him as being discharged 27/10/1921. The XXXII Brigade (32), Royal Field Artillery comprised of the 27th, 134th and 135th Batteries, and attached to 4th Infantry Division. In August 1914 it mobilised and was sent to the Continent with the British Expeditionary Force, where it saw service with 4th Division throughout the war. A howitzer battery was formed in May 1916, from a section of each of 86th (Howitzer) and 128th (Howitzer) Batteries, and designated D Battery. Offered is a Distinguished Flying Medal group of 6 medals to Flight Sergeant A. Brown, who flew as a Navigator in Mosquitoes as part of the 128th Squadron (Pathfinder Force) R. The swing mounted group consists of: Distinguished Flying Medal G. 1939-45 Star; Atlantic Star with imitation clasp AIR CREW EUROPE; Africa Star; Defence Medal; War Medal 1939-45 with Mentioned In Despatches oak leaf. The medals are swing mounted. All medals excluding the D. Are unnamed – as issued. Comes with Air Ministry envelope containing unused period form. Copy of the D. Recommendation and & details of sorties-targets and dates. Copies London Gazette 1945. Andrew Brown, who presumably was active earlier in the Coastal Command, began his operational career with the 128th Squadron in September 1944, the same month that the squadron was reformed at Wyton as a Mosquito light bomber unit (8th Path Finder Force Group), as part of the P. Fast Night Strike Force. In this capacity, Brown went on to complete his 40 operational sorties against German targets. This included 18 sorties to Berlin. A scarce WWII D. Accompanied by copy of his recommendation for the D. 128 Squadron reformed at Wyton on 5 September 1944 as a Mosquito squadron in No. 8 Group, and was part of the Light Night Striking Force. The squadron flew night intruder missions over Germany for the rest of the war. Locations: September 1944-June 1945: Wyton. October 1945-March 1946: B. The Light Night Striking Force (LNSF) was an outgrowth of the Pathfinder Force use of the fast and long-ranged Mosquito bomber, which could carry a sizeable bomb load. Under 8 Group, the number of Mosquito squadrons was built up. These were used for harassing raids on Germany. To the two (Oboe-equipped) Mosquito squadrons already in Pathfinder Force, a third No. 139 was added in June 1943, which Bennett intended to use for diversionary raids to draw the German nightfighters away from the main force. In February 1944 an entirely Mosquito raid was mounted against Düsseldorf. It was formed of the usual marker aircraft from 105 Squadron and 692 Squadron Mosquitos, each carrying a single 4,000 lb “cookie”, and backup aircraft with 500 lb delayed action bombs. With Harris’ support, Bennett formed more Mosquito squadrons to expand the LNSF, giving him nine bomber squadrons, as well as the Oboe-equipped markers and 8 Group’s own meteorological Mosquitoes. The LNSF achieved 27,239 sorties, their best month being March 1945 with nearly 3,000 sorties. This was achieved with the loss of just under 200 aircraft on operations or “damaged beyond repair”. Flight Sergeant Brown flew 40 operation sorties in Mosquitoes from September 1944-10. Targets were : Karlsruhe, Hamburg, Osnabruck, Hannover x 5, Munster, Berlin x 18, Mannheim x 2, Sterkrade, Stuttgart, Magdeburg x 3, Erfurt x 2, Nuremburg, Kassel x 2 & Essen. The mini Air medal is missing the orange color (see photos). The actual medal (hanging) are a bit wrinkled from storage. They are not engraved and unfortunately I do not know any of the history. A friend bought a house and the previous owner left most of their contents. Most of the items that were military related were from the Ellington Air national guard. Offered is an original Second War 1942 Operation Harpoon Distinguished Service Medal group of six awarded to Leading Air Fitter A. Daniels, Fleet Air Arm, later Sub Lieutenant in the Royal Navy – in which rank he was killed during the Korean War when his helicopter crashed into the sea shortly after take off, 15 December 1952. Medal group includes, from left to right; Distinguished Service Medal, G. 1939-45 Star; Africa Star, with clasp North Africa 1942-43; Italy Star; Defence and War Medals 1939-45, court mounted for display, medals lightly toned. Selected as having consistently shown keenness and efficiency and moreover behaved with outstanding courage and coolness in Harpoon whilst working under fire to maintain the serviceability of fighter aircraft. Alan Philip James Daniels was born in May 1923, and in later life was a resident of Westbury-on-Trym, Bristol. He served as a Leading Air Fitter with the Fleet Air Arm during the Second War. His service included with the Fleet Carrier H. Argus, and it was whilst serving with her during Operation Harpoon that he distinguished himself. The latter operation was a convoy designed to deliver six supply ships from the UK to Malta. They sailed from the UK, 5 June 1942, and passed through the Straits of Gibraltar on the night of 11 June. The six merchantmen, carrying 43,000 tons of cargo, were to be escorted to the Sicilian Narrows by the carriers Argus, and Eagle, the battleship Malaya, four cruisers and 17 destroyers. The convoy was well into the Mediterranean by 14 June, when heavy German and Italian air attacks were launched against them. As a consequence one merchantman and one destroyer were sunk. Further heavy air attacks continued until the convoy reached the narrows that night. The convoy proceeded to Malta with a reduced escort, and only two of the merchantmen made it through to Malta the following day. Daniels continued to serve after the war, and was commissioned Sub Lieutenant in the Royal Navy, 30 April 1949. A nice original WW1 era George V Distinguished Service Order. Ranked only below the VC and George Cross for bravery, these medals seldom come on the market. You can see all the key details in the photographs – correct diagonal pin head on inside edge. There is some wear to the gilding on the medal edge exposing silver, and to the George V cypher in the centre, being normal signs of wear by the recipient. Being issued unnamed, we don’t know who the brave winner was. The box has excellent hinges and closes correctly.
