WW1 DCM Medal Group Awarded – Company Sergeant Major C. Cooper Royal Fusiliers A group of three First World War medals awarded to Company Sergeant Major C. Cooper of The Royal Fusiliers, consisting of (from left to right). The Distinguished Conduct Medal, The British War Medal and The Victory Medal. The Distinguished Conduct Medal is engraved to the edge L-11886 C. The British War Medal is engraved to the edge L-11886 W. The Victory Medal is engraved to the edge L-11886 W. The medals are court mounted with a felt backing and pin clasp. Included with the medals is various photocopied paperwork regarding Company Sergeant Major C. Cooper, including his death certificate (1930) and Supplement to the London Gazette, 5th December, 1918. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during two attacks on a wood and a village. His company was badly cut up, and all the officers had become casualties. He reorganised the remnants and led them forward to the final objective with great determination. Working under very adverse conditions and in the face of intense fire this warrant officer set a fine example in maintaining the discipline and morale of the company. Dimensions The medals are of the standard size. The mounted set measures 4 inches (10cm) by 3 (8.5cm) and weighs 139g. Condition The medal trio is in great condition with just some discolouration with age. A full size British WW1 Military Medal Group with original ribbons, the Group consists of. Military Medal, correctly named to: 39492 Sjt. 1914-15 Star, correctly named to. British War Medal, correctly named to. Victory Medal, correctly named to. Serjeant Thomas John Southey was killed in action 19.08.1917 whilst on duty with the 3rd Field Survey Company, R. He is buried on the Roisel Communal Cemetery Extension, Somme, France. The award of the Military Medal is confirmed in the London Gazette and his MIC. The MIC shows that he was attached from the R. To the 3rd Field Survey Company, R. As he earned his MM. The Group comes with copies of both MICĀ“s and the London Gazette Entry. Condition of the medals is VF or better, please see all photos – 3rd Field Coy were involved in charting the battlefield prior to attacks etc – there work was dangerous as it involved journeys into no mans land and front line this award of an MM was for work carried out whilst attached to Field Survey Company – they used a lot of Royal Field Artillery men as they were experts in field guns and ranging techniques hence there importance in trench warfare.
