You are looking at a logbook grouping. Belonging to Pilot, Wing Commander Arthur. E, he took command of 578 Squadron after serving with 10 Squadron for a few ops at the start of August 1944 including Foret De Nieppe, St Philbert Ferne, Foret De Mormal. Then James joined 578, he took part in ops towards the end of August 1944 through to January 1945 on ops including Venlo, Calais, Sterkrade, Osnabruck, Magdeburg, he has nicely annotated D-Day 6th June 1944 and June 12th first V1 to fall on England, then later on the same page the first V-2 to fall on London on September 8th and also annotated a few ops with what the target was i. E Oil depot, V-2 Base, and Close support. James took command of 578 Squadron quite quickly due to the death of their previous, being Wing Commander D S S Wilkerson, who unfortunately died in a plane crash, post war James had a book and also unveiled the Memorial at the 578 Base at Burn. They saw extensive service in Korea as well especially in their roll at the frozen chosin. He would serve all the way until vietnam war and retire as a full bird Col. This grouping includes everything seen in the photos. The full wrap Lom is engraved the other is not. He also earned a BSM. A Second World War O. Group of 6 awarded to Instructor Commander J. Gascoigne, Royal Navy, who was’mentioned’ for his service aboard H. Kent on the Arctic Convoys. The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, 2nd Type, Military Division, O. ; 1939-45 Star; Atlantic Star; Defence and War Medals 1939-45, with M. Oak leaf; Coronation Medal 1953. Period swing mounted as worn. Comes with original commissioning document; 2 photographs in uniform in a plush leather folder; ribbon bar; Commanders shoulder board (Gieves makers mark to rear); letter; drivers licence 1976; three copies of his papers On the Combination of observational data (1936) London Gazette 1945 and obituary. Commander John Cleland Gascoigne. (Jack) was born in Bilboa, Spain in 1913. His father was working and living there and subsequently Jack was bordered and educated at Peter Symonds School at Winchester, followed by the Imperial College, London University (1934) gaining his B. He undertook further research in statistics gaining a diploma and published a paper Levy and Gascoigne (1936). He joined the Royal Navy as Instructor Lieutenant in 1935, serving on the H. Norfolk serving in the Med. On the outbreak of the war, he was serving on H. S Revenge (Revenge-class super-dreadnought battleships) but after 41 served on H. S Kent (County class heavy cruiser) promoted to Lt Commander 1941 and mentioned in dispatches in 1942, The Kent spent most of the war escorting convoys to and from North Russia and in 43 was unsuccessfully attacked by the U 625 when escorting convoy JW 52. He was awarded his O. Post war he served on the aircraft carriers H. S Implacable and Indomitable being promoted to Commander 1948. He served in a variety of shore posting including Principal Lecturer in the Mechanical Engineering Department Royal Navy College, Greenwich. He retired from the Navy in 1961 after serving some 26 years. As a civilian he continued to work in the Royal Navy finishing up in the Inspectorate of Armaments Woolwich Arsenal where he remained until his death in 1978. We list militaria and coins weekly. Offered is an original medal set from Morocco, being the Order of Ouissam Alaouite, type 1 (1913-34), Grand Commanders set of insignia, by Arthus Bertrand of Paris. Type I set of insignia, including the neck badge, being of 3 construction, in silver with red, white and green enamels, gilt on the reverse centrepiece, type II as defined by the lack of inscriptions on the arms on the obverse, hallmarked with a boar’s head (denoting French manufacture of 900 silver) on the obverse of the integral ring, marked with a boar’s head and maker. On the obverse of the loop, A. & Co (Arthus Bertrand of Paris) measuring 58 mm x 84 mm inclusive of its wreath and laterally-pierced ball suspension, chipping evident in the red enamels in some sections, a couple of very small contact marks on the reverse centrepiece, on a short length of neck ribbon. The Breast Star, of 3 piece construction, insignia in silver with red, white and green enamels (repaired to centre chip), hallmarked with a boar’s head on both the catch and pin, along with being maker marked A. & Co (Arthus Bertrand of Paris) on the pin, measuring 75mm x 78mm. The Order of Ouissam Alaouite (AKA Sharifian Order of Al-Alaoui) is a military decoration of Morocco which is bestowed by the King of Morocco upon those civilians and military officers who have displayed heroism in combat or have contributed meritorious service to the Moroccan state. The decoration was established on January 11, 1913 in replacement of the Order of Ouissam Hafidien. It is awarded in five classes: Grand Cross, Grand Officer, Commander, Officer and Knight.
