This is an extremely rare Second World War solid bronze medallic award. This is a medal issued by the French Red Cross (CRF ; Croix-Rouge Francais) in Egypt. The rectangular medal has been awarded for helping prisoners of war in the Post Said camp. Whether the medal was awarded to an individual, an authority or an organisation, I do not know. The medal (6.00 cm x 14.50 cm) depicts a chained man reaching out to a Red Cross sun. Incised, on the reverse, is the following caption;’ PORT-SAID AIDE AUX PRISONNIERES DE GUERRE 1943′. The medal is also numbered’39′ on the reverse. I have seen other similar Port Said CRF bronze POW Camp medals(different numbers and design). They are rare enough. However, I have never seen this issue anywhere. This item is in the category “Collectables\Militaria\World War II (1939-1945)\Medals/ Ribbons”. Original German post WW2 / 1957 pattern Navy Kriegsmarine Naval Combat Clasp, IN VERY NICE CONDITION, PERFECTLY WORKING PIN DEVICE, MAKER: ST&L (STEINHAUER UND LUECK), THE “JUNCKER” STAMP IS A LATER ADDITION (JUNCKER NEVER MANUFACTURED THESE AWARDS) , GOOD LATER EXAMPLE WITH OPEN HINGE BLOCK, A GREAT PIECE. FEW FACTS ABOUT THE 1957 PATTERN GERMAN AWARDS. In 1957 the West German government authorised replacement Iron Crosses with an Oak Leaf Cluster in place of the swastika, similar to the Iron Crosses of 1813, 1870, and 1914, which could be worn by World War II Iron Cross recipients. The 1957 law also authorised de-Nazified versions of most other World War II-era decorations (except those specifically associated with Nazi Party organizations, such as SS Long Service medals, or with the expansion of the German Reich, such as the medals for the annexation of Austria, the Sudetenland, and the Memel region). The main government contract to manufacture and supply these new de-nazified WW2 1957 official decorations went to the world famous German firm Steinhauer & Lueck, Luedenscheid Germany. Knights Crosses, Iron Crosses, Wound Badges, Tank Assault Badges etc were re-designed by Steinhauer & Lück – often with the oak-leaf spray replacing the swastika, with S&L having the sole patent rights to all WW2 1957 German decorations. S&L did not have the whole monopoly on medal making, other famous firms such as Deschler & Sohn, BH Maher and Juncker also manufactured these new German decorations. Lüdenscheid is situated between the cities Dortmund and Bonn. It was here that one of the youngest medal firms was founded in 1889 by August Steinhauer and Gustav Adolf Lück. The first production began in a cellar, the customer base continued to increase. A property was bought at 51 Hochstrasse which is still home for this famous company today. During WW2 Steinhauer & Lück produced medals and badges, like the famous Knights Cross and many other types of medals and badges. In 1957 this company was awarded the contract to produce all the newly re-designed legal WW2 1957 de-nazified decorations, plus the contract to manufacture all of Germany’s official decorations including Germany’s highest order the Bundesverdienstkreuz. Only a very limited number of original WW2 1957 medals are still produced, mainly Iron Crosses, German Cross Gold & Silver & Wound Badges and are considered 100% genuine by the German Government. HISTORY OF THE AWARD. Naval Combat Clasp (German: Marine-Frontspange) was a World War II German military decoration awarded to officers and men of the Kriegsmarine in recognition of long, hard front line service for all naval units. On November 19th, 1944, Admiral Dönitz instituted the Marine Combat Clasp to be presented to Navy personnel for meritorious actions which were not covered by existing decorations. It was necessary to perform actions five times in excess of the requirements for a basic war badge. The badge was intended to be worn above the left pocket. Because this badge was created so late in the war, it is rare in the extreme. A 1957 version was also instituted. Offered here is a RARE piece of Militaria from the Royal Air Force from the period of The Second World War. We are unable to find out any information on the medal or medallion, however it is made from Cast Bronze. On the reverse it reads Awarded to. I cannot see if there is a worn name on the plaque or if it is blank, it is difficult to tell because of the brain in the casting. It is obviously an RAF piece from Medmenhan, and is a Bronze medal, Medallion or plaque. I cannot find anything from 1943 that explains what the First Poster Exhibition was. The medallion has a CAT design in the centre. The piece is heavy and thick and measures 3 inches (78 millimetres) across its diameter, it is 1/4 of an inch thick. If anyone does have any more information, please let me know what this represents, it is certainly a Rare piece. This is in nice condition with a lovely patina. It has been well cast from solid Bronze. RAF Medmenham is a former Royal Air Force station based at Danesfield House near Medmenham, Buckinghamshire Activities there specialised in Photographic Intelligence and it was once the home of the RAF Intelligence Branch During the Second World War, RAF Medmenham was the main interpretation centre for photographic reconnaissance operations in the European and Mediterranean theatres. April 1941, an RAF photographic interpretation unit (PIU) moved to Danesfield House, Medmenham, as its previous location at Wembley was short of space, and was renamed the Central Interpretation Unit (CIU). Later that year the Bomber Command Damage Assessment Section was absorbed, and amalgamation was completed when the Night Photographic Interpretation Section of No 3 Photographic Reconnaissance Unit, RAF Oakington was integrated with CIU in February 1942 and the base was assigned the motto Serve and Support. During 1942 and 1943, the CIU gradually expanded and was involved in the planning stages of practically every operation of the war, and in every aspect of intelligence. In 1945, daily intake of material averaged 25,000 negatives and 60,000 prints. The print library, which documented and stored worldwide cover, held 5,000,000 prints from which 40,000 reports had been produced.
