WW2 DSM medal group to HMS Whitley, Dunkirk, Bravery medal, RNVR LSGC medal. Distinguished Service Medal GVI correctly impressed naming to – BD/X. WHITLEY 1939 star, Atlantic star & War medal unnamed as issued. RNVR LSGC medal – BD/X. Medals awing mounted as worn. However Whitley sustained severe damage & had to be beached. Also involved in rescue of survivors in 1941 from HMS Vimiera. Comes with research notes & some copied paperwork from National archives & copies of London gazette. Gallantry groups to Dunkirk are very rare indeed! I will only charge actual amount. I was going to keep these but some other interesting item has come up and I need to finance this. With the 80th anniversary of the sinking coming up soon, this is a chance to own the Historically Important medal group awarded to The Captain of the Blue Star Line SS Arandora Star which was sunk by German U-boat U-47 Captained by Ace Gunther Prien. The medals are as follows :- Posthumous Lloyd’s Medal For Bravery at Sea named CAPTAIN. SS ARANDORA STAR 2nd JULY 1940. He was also awarded the Kings Commendation for Brave Conduct at the same time {This is absent}. WW1 Officer Pair named LIEUT. M {Lieutenant Royal Indian Marines} and Mercantile Marine named EDGAR. A Poland Polish Cross of Valour {awarded to him for Officers for the Withdrawal of Polish Troops from France 1940}, Atlantic Star, 1939-45 Star and a War Medal. SELFE on the Pair. Her medal card states PRISCILLA JANE MOULTON nee SELFE. The SS ARANDORA STAR was carrying 1673 people including Crew, British Military Guards German and Italian Prisoners of War and civilian Internees. She was sunk 02/07/1940 with a loss of 826 including Captain Edgar Moulton. He was Posthumously awarded the Lloyds War Medal For Bravery at sea and a German Merchant Navy Prisoner was also Posthumously cited for Heroism. A truly rare medal group and the first time on the market. The only similar medal group i found was this one, but i would say the Arandora Star is rarer. A fine posthumous Kings Commendation, Lloyds War Medal for Bravery at Sea group of seven awarded to Purser R. Clan MacArthur, in August 1943. 1939-45 Star; Atlantic Star; Africa Star; Pacific Star; War Medal 1939-45. Lloyds War Medal for Bravery at Sea. Clan MacArthur, 12th August 1943. Kings Commendation for Brave Conduct. Oval plastic badge, on a blue riband. The Lloyds award with some edge bruising, otherwise good very fine and better (7). The awarded – the staff sergeant Ulyanov Evgeny Aleksandrovich is the assistant to the commander of a platoon of the 471st battalion of service of the Air Force. The sergeant Ulyanov in fight in the Caucasus together with the platoon attacked on January 10, 1943 the German defense in the village of Vorontsovo-Aleksandrovskaya. In this fight the sergeant Ulyanov killed 10 German soldiers and 2 soldiers took prisoner. Also the platoon of the sergeant Ulyanov took a warehouse of ammunition – 50,000 shells for guns, 300,000 cartridges for a rifle , 100 boxes of grenades and other arms. For this feat the sergeant Ulyanov is awarded with the medal “For Bravery”. Information from the website archive of the Red Army. ” For Bravery ” Medal – silver. Weight about 26-28 gr. World War Two Military Medal and Territorial. Medal group to a Staff Sergeant from the Royal Army. Corps who was with the 9th Durham Light Infantry on D-Day and who won his Military Medal on the evening of the 6th June 1944 near Bayeux. He also managed to escape from being a prisoner of the Germans on the same day! The Military Medal – correctly named 7348967 S. The Africa Star with 8th Army Bar. The France and Germany Star. Territorial Forces Medal – correctly named 7348967 S. The medals are all mounted on their original suspension bar. Was born on 19th May 1912 in Newcastle Upon Tyne. With the 1st Durham Infantry Brigade of the 50th North Division as part of 30 Corps. He would have landed with the 9th Durham Light Infantry onto Gold Beach. His recommendation for the immediate award of his Military Medal is as follows. On the night of 6 / 7 June 1944 S/Sgt Chipchase was with the 9th Bn Durham Light Infantry with a section of his company in the area of Bayeux. He Continued to attend to casualties whilst under heavy fire, even when a fighting patrol of the enemy penetrated to within 20 yards of his post. His leadership and the example set were beyond all praise. Later in the day S/Sgt. Chipchase became a prisoner of a party of the enemy, but after a short while affected his escape and rejoined his section and continued to attend all casualties in the area. The award was recommended by Lieutenant Colonel S. R Trick of the R. And confirmed by Major General Douglas A H Graham as Commander 50 Division and Lieutenant General Gerard Bucknall, Commander of 30 Corps. The award was published in the London Gazette on 19th October 1944. The Territorial Efficiency Medal was confirmed as awarded in February 1947.
