He led his company forward with splendid skill and courage over ground swept by the enemys fire with only slight losses. When the advance was temporarily held up by a strongly held enemy position, he drove out the enemy and led his company to the capture of their objective. His determination and aggressive spirit were an inspiration to his men. Captain Carswell died of wounds on the first day of the German Spring Offensive, March 21st 1918.
