I’ve never seen another in person, and can’t find another example of one online. This “Porter Military Academy” medal, now “Porter Gaud” of Charleston, SC is in fantastic original condition. Porter Military Academy has been around since 1867, and this medal appears to date sometime from the 1920′s to WWII. The top bar is marked “gold filled” and the makers mark from William Schridde of Chicago is stamped on the planchet. It’s engraved “1st place aggregate” so this would have been awarded to the overall winner of the shooting competition. It’s unknown if there were any other medals awarded to any other finishers, or how many years this was done. This shooting medal is as rare as they come, and would be an excellent addition to any shooting medal or Charleston area collection.
