WW2 Medal Pair NY Conspicuous Service Cross & Commendation Medal Named Captain. Very nice pair of medals to a very interesting man. These medals were both awarded to Captain George R Gottschalk. The medals are the New York Conspicuous Service Cross and a very early 1950s Army Commendation medal period engraved with his name. The conspicuous service cross was not awarded until 1988 and i have a copy of the record showing this which makes this medal the accruate style medal for that period. Captain Gottschalk was a very interesting man and had a very busy life. There is still some research that needs to be done on his kilitary career but he joined in 1941 and quickly attained the rank of Captain he worked with the Army Ordnance Departnent in Washington DC and later did something with the atomic commission. He was also a renowned author/business operator/ consultant/ investor and philanthropist. Very interesting man i have attached his obiturary below. These 100% came from him. I have a few documents/ copies of the records that will be included with the medals! Please check iut my other new york medal as i have been listing parts of a large collection and will be listing more over the next week or so! George Richard Gottschalk, 97, of 151 E.
