The face with a shrine in classical style; the reverse inscribed in characters’Kang Teh 7th year / National Foundation Sacred Shrine Foundation Commemorative Medal / 7th Month 15th Day’; on original ribbon with hook and eye fittings. Having invaded Manchuria in 1931 and established a puppet regime, the occupying Japanese Imperial Kwantung (or Guandong) Army built a shrine known as the National Foundation Sacred Shrine in the national palace in Hsinking to symbolise Japanese imperial power and’Japanese-Manchurian friendship’.
