WW1 plaque to 24/232 Private John Padden. John enlisted on November 6th 1914 and lived in Sandgate, Newcastle. He served with 24th (1st Tyneside Irish) Batallion, Northumberland Fusiliers. 103rd Brigade / 34th Division. He died, age 19, on the first day of the Somme, 1st July 1916. He was killed during an attack on German positions south of La Boiselle. He is named on the Thiepval Memorial. Plaque is in nice, unpolished condition.
