36mm wide circular silver medal on claw and ribbon bar suspension; the face with the Jubilee crowned bust of Queen Victoria facing left, circumscribed VICTORIA REGINA ET IMPERATRIX (Victoria Queen and Empress); the reverse with the laurel-crowned winged seated figure of Victory, a palm branch in her right hand, a laurel crown in her left, standards to either side, a plaque inscribed SUDAN below. Impressed in Arabic script to centre of rim. The Medal was instituted in 1899 to be awarded to those involved in the reconquest of the Sudan in 1896 and 1897.
