ORIGINAL WORLD WAR I UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, SEWN BAR BROOCH. RIBBON DRAPE TESTED U. The Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal was established on 20 July 1896. The medal was originally a ribbon and medal suspended from a clasp bearing the words U. The clasp was eliminated after WWII and the medal has remained unchanged in appearance since that time. Since its inception in 1896, the name of the recipient was engraved by hand on the reverse side of the medal until stamping the name on the medal began during World War II (numbered on the rim) and was done completely by 1951. In 1953, the Marine Corps adopted bronze and silver 3/16-inch service stars to denote additional awards of the Good Conduct Medal, replacing enlistment bars showing each honorable period of service. Since 10 December 1954, members of the Marine Corps must have three consecutive years of honorable and faithful service in order to be eligible for the medal. The Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal is affectionately nicknamed, “The Good Cookie” by Marines. Please let me know if there’s anything else I can do for you!

This uniform belong to John T. Williamson who served during World War II and Korean War as a fighter pilot. During WWII he served in the VMF-482 and VMF-471. He served in a few fighter squadrons belonging to 2nd MAW during Korean War. I believe he earned 3 air medals. He would have also been awarded many medals including asiatic Pacific campaign metal, American campaign, WWII victory, Korean War, national defense, etc… He rose to the rank of captain. This would have been the last uniform he wore before retiring from marines. The uniform is missing the top button. This would be a great restoration and research project. Pictures are a part of the description so please see carefully. Please don’t hesitate to send me an offer. So please let me know if you are interested in more than one item.

Exceedingly Rare 1939 FLEET MARINE CORPS RESERVE MEDAL Miniature USMC U. S. Mini

It doesn’t get rarer than this… Completely original Type 1 1939 U. Marine Corps Fleet Reserve miniature medal. These type 1 medals were only awarded (I believe there was a single BB&B contract) for a handful of months in early 1939. It was replaced by the type II medal for the second half of 1939 and a short time in 1940 before a complete activation of the Fleet Marine Corps Reserve occurred at the earliest onset of WWII. Thus, there was no need for either medal during the war, so both early types rarely surface for sale. Full size type I medals only come up for sale every few years, and I’ve only seen two miniatures in 30 years in the hobby. This is truly a time capsule piece.
