Offered is a WW2 Royal Australian Air Force medal group, as awarded to Sergeant Albert William Omond, who was taken prisoner by the Japanese and worked on the notorious Thai Burma Railway. Medal group includes the following, swing mounted as worn: 1939-45 Star, The Pacific Star, War Medal & Australian Service Medal 1939-45. All are named in impressed capitals to: 16273 A. Omond came from Norseman, was born in 1915 and enlisted 24th April 1940. He trained as an Aircraft fitter, worked at Pearce and was taken prisoner at Palembang, Java in 1942. He would have been captured, along with most of 1st Squadron, who were decimated as a result of captured, wounded and killed as a result of the Japanese invasion of Java. He served in P. Work camps – Moulmein & Camp Thai and was liberated in Thailand in 1945. Brought back to Perth in October 1945. He was discharged on the 30th April 1946. His service record can be viewed.
