World War Medals

All of them being genuine. Some of the Victorian and WW1 medals have been polished but you will see from my photographs the condition. Singles, pairs, trios and family groups. Some medals have photocopy paperwork with them as well. Some do have modern ribbons, but the majority are on their original ribbons. All are full size unless otherwise stated. Please note: I have added 29 large photos to the bottom of this listing to try and show the item(s) in as much detail as possible so please take the time to view them all carefully. This is a group of 9 medals from the WWI – WWII era all related to FRANKLYN SKEFFINGTON. The medals included are. First World War Trio on a bar. The 1914-15 Star is engraved with 03062 L. All have original ribbons attached to a cardboard stiff top. Also 3 ribbons the same. Three Second World War medals on a stiff cardboard top as well. 1939-45 STAR – FRANCE & GERMANY STAR – 1939-45 WAR MEDAL. And another 3 ribbons on stiff card. A large sterling silver and enamel medal named Diocese of Leicester, Association of the Readers. This is hallmarked for Birmingham 1927 with maker’s mark WHH. A gilt silver and enamel RAOB jewel from the Countsthorpe Lodge No. Which is a Primo jewel with the words Justice, Truth, Philanthropy on the front. It has been engraved to Bro. Franklyn Skeffington dated 1937. It is hallmarked for Chester, 1936 with maker’s mark C. There is also an aluminium medal commemorating George V’s Silver Jubilee in 1935 from the City of Leicester. The medals come with some paperwork including: An original embossed headed WAR OFFICE typed letter dated 17th April 1946 releasing Captain Skeffington from his military duty. His name would appear in the London Gazette (supplement) Honorary rank of Captain. It has his name written in ink at the bottom as Captain F. This typed letter is grubby and has 2 punched holes in the left hand side as its been in a folder at some time. A photocopy of his Index Roll. And a small R. Written in front of it. A photocopy of a Supplement to the London Gazette dated 1919 with Skeffington’s name in it. There is also some printed information about Skeffington and his life etc. Franklyn Skeffington was born in 1898, enlisted in 1915 and served as a L. He was later a Cpl. In the Rifle Brigade. He was commissioned as a temporary 2nd Lieutenant in the Leicestershire Regiment on the 6.2.1919. Served as Lay Preacher (reader) in the Diocese of Leicester from 1928. In 1937 he was awarded a R. A. O. B. Primo jewel – medal from Countesthorpe Lodge. He initially served with ” B ” Company 2nd Leicestershire (South Leicestershire) Battalion Home Guard. On January 1st 1943 he was commissioned in the Royal Pioneer Corps and served in NW Europe. All medals are full size. There are normal signs of age and use wear including some surface scuffs, impact marks, or dirt etc. The medals are mostly clean with some surface tarnishing and scuffs etc. The enamelling on the RAOB jewel and religious medal both have some small chips on the surfaces.
