A very intersting WW1 St John’s Ambulance & Royal Army Medical Corps Surgeons medal group. Captain / Surgeon Francis Willougby Goyder from Yorkshire, enrolled at the St John’s College, Cambridge in 1896. Before the War he was an assistant surgeon at the Bradford Royal eye and ear Hospital. He served in the first World War as a surgeon at the St Johns Ambulance brigade hospital (from September 1915) at Etaples, near Boulogne, France. He left the hospital to’gain a wider experience of military medcine’. He was was atmitted to the grade of Honour Associate of the Order of St John (19th October, 1917). After the War he was an honoury consulting Surgeon at York orthopadeic Hospital for children, Kirby-moorside. Subsequentially becoming a medical author (clinical research and applying trials). A very interesting group to a surgeon of the St John’s Ambulance brigade and R. Medal group is full entitlement. Order of St John’s unnamed as issued. 1914/15 star correctly named -”CAPT. WW2 ROYAL AIR FORCE MEDAL GROUP AWARDED TO SPITFIRE PILOT CLIFFORD JOHN DIBDEN, 92 SQUADRON. CLIFFORD JOHN DIBDEN WAS BORN 23/2/1917 IN CHEPSTOW, MONMOUTHSHIRE. IN MARCH 1939 CLIFFORD JOINED THE GLOUCESTERSHIRE CONSTABULARY AS A POLICE CONSTABLE. HE WAS STATIONED AT LYDNEY POLICE STATION IN THE FOREST OF DEAN. CLIFFORD WAS ALSO A VERY GOOD RUGBY PLAYER, HE PLAYED IN THE CENTRE FOR GLOUCESTER AND LYDNEY RUGBY CLUBS. CLIFFORD JOINED THE RAF IN 1943 AND WAS SELECTED FOR A FLYING COURSE IN SOUTH AFRICA, AFTER TRAINING HE WAS ASSIGNED TO 92 SQUADRON WHO FLEW SPITFIRES. 22/1/1944 THE SQUADRON WERE TASKED WITH SUPPORTING BRITISH AND AMERICAN TROOPS AT ANZIO. Group includes 1939-45 Star, Africa Star, Burma Star, Defence Medal, War Medal 1939-45 & 1902-56 Africa General Service Medal impressed named to CAPT. Medals court mounted for display with basic research paperwork. John Gordon Laing enlisted in the British Army 11/1/1937 and served with the Royal West Surry Regiment. Most likely he served with the 2nd Battalion, as they were the only Battalion within the regiment to have served in both North Africa & Burma. The 2nd Bn were transferred to Burma and made up part of the 16th Brigade, 6th Infantry Division which was later redesignated as the 70th Infantry Division and were involved in Operation Thursday, the second Chindits campaign which aimed to transport troops behind enemy lines by air to create fortified bases with airstrips for operational use. Transferred to the Reserve 26/5/1946. He was commissioned from the ranks as a Second Lieutenant in the Kenya Regiment on 5 February 1953. Apologies if my description of the St John medals are incorrect. I don’t have much knowledge of them. St John Ambulance Maltese Cross medal. 1939-45 star, Atlantic star with France and Germany bar, Africa star, Defence medal, British war medal and Australian service medal all correctly named in large RAAF impressing. This is his full medal entitlement at the time. Service medal of the Order of St. John with 2 bars. Last 7 medals court mounted together. Also comes with a set of early miniatures for the first 7 medals. Made by KC Luke Melb. Comes with a photocopy of his archive file and his Operational Record Book (ORB) from 3/2/43 to 29/4/43. It shows he flew as a F/Sgt with 48 Sqd out of Gibraltar and Afadir. He flew 485 hours as a pilot and 20 as a 2nd pilot. He completed 95 sorties from 26/8/42 to 14/7/43. Enlisted Melbourne, 29/3/41 aged 19. Served Middle East, Southern Rhodesia, South Africa, UK, Gibraltar, North Africa, Mediterranean and the UK. Discharged 1/7/47 as a F/Lt. An Officer of the Order of St John medal. In case of issue. St John Ambulance Maltese Cross medal (no ribbon). Defence medal, British war medal, 1977 Coronation medal, Service medal of the Order of St John medal with 4 bars. All court mounted together. All unnamed but her name is Massie.
