WW2 Medal Group: 39-45 Star, Atlantic Star [with France and Germany] Bar, Africa Star, War Medal, Naval LSGC issued to K. 64120 Chief Stoker John Frederick Penn, Royal Navy. Naval LSGC correctly impressed to K. Medals in GVF Condition. John Frederick Penn was born in Hampstead, London on 17.2.1905. Enlisted in the Royal Navy on 29.5.1924 aged 12 years old. Gave occupation as Storeman. Posted to HMS Argus from 3.1.1925 – 2.11.1925; HMS Yarmouth 1.12.1925 – 1.9.1926; HMS Renown 2.9.1926 – 2.1.1928; HMS Fisgard 3.1.1928 – 30.4.21928; HMS Coventry 7.5.1930 – 15.3.1931; HMS Hood 16.3.1931 – 30.8.1933; HMS Duncan 23.10.1934 – 16.12.1934; HMS Keppel 17.12.1934 – 14.7.1936; HMS Enterprise 1.4.1938 – 28.10.1938; HMS Eagle 7.4.1939 – 18.2.1940; HMS Manchester 19.4.1941 & 1.6.1941. Possibly taken POW as no further postings on service sheet and the final stamp is 27.7.1946 HMS Victory for discharge? – though he has a France & Germany bar on his Atlantic star, which suggests he may have been a survivor from the sinking and picked up or POW and escaped? Would require some further research. Please note that the watermark is not on the original postcard image.
