Estate lot of identified WW2 memorabilia of veteran of the 80th Division reconnaissance serving at the BATTLE OF THE BULGE , dog tags and chain , visor cap and overseas cap with infantry piping, photos and papers for award of medal and discharge information. WW2 cased PURPLE HEART MEDAL with ribbon bar for veteran wounded in action WIA on CHRISTMAS EVE 1944. A large piece of shrapnel is part of the lot and was removed from veterans chest and lung. The piece of metal was kept as a war memento. A pretty ugly reminder of war and also of the way the GREATEST GENERATION rose above adversity and carried on in life. GROSS served as a Boy Scout leader in Brookfield Ma. Also there is a boxed ww2 victory medal, military whistle and chain , military CIB Combat Infantryman’s Badge pin and US and INFANTRY collar brass. Interesting lot a Purple Heart medal with a real face and story. The item “Id’d WW2 80 Div Battle of Bulge Xmas 1944 WIA wound PH medals dog tags shrapnel” is in sale since Monday, May 20, 2019. US Navy WW2 VBF-1 ROYAL FLUSHERS F4U CORSAIR FIGHTER PILOT ID'D AIR MEDAL RACK

After establishing a fearsome reputation operating from land bases with US Marine Corps pilots in the South Pacific, a new landing approach and special training finally allowed the high performance Chance Vought F4U Corsair to be deployed from Navy carriers. The Corsair soon replaced dive bombers, torpedo planes, and Hellcats, as it could accurately deliver the same load as a dive bomber while retaining its deadly air to air capabilities. In January 1945, the Navy began establishing fighter bomber (VBF) squadrons flying the Corsair off fleet carriers. VBF-1, nicknamed the “Royal Flushers”, was assigned to USS Bennington (CV-20) after she completed repairs in the Pacific in mid-June 1945. Bennington could then better protect herself and the fleet with the air wing while wielding a powerful offensive strike package. VBF-1 flew strikes against Japanese warships and installations on the home islands until the surrender was signed in August 1945. This US Navy WW2 VBF-1 “ROYAL FLUSHERS” F4U CORSAIR FIGHTER PILOT ID’D AIR MEDAL RACK is in very good condition, with a small loose stitch on the front American Campaign drape, some fading to each front drape, mismatched clutches, and with some light overall spot patina and age wear evident (ALL pictured). Otherwise, the rack is in fine shape, with no other damage. Most interestingly, it consists of the Air Medal with the original “gold star” to denote a second award, American Campaign, Asiatic Pacific Campaign, WW2 Victory, and Navy Occupation Service with “ASIA” clasp, sports elegant stitching and fully intact pin posts at the upper back, and is attributed to Ens. Ensign (later Commander) Harold O. “Bo” Bosacki served as an F4U Corsair fighter pilot with VBF-1 during the squadron’s entire deployment aboard the Bennington from June to August 1945, twice earning the Air Medal for number of combat missions flown. On August 13th, 1945 Ensign Bosacki’s aircraft was hit by anti-aircraft fire during a strike on Central Honshu, but his rugged bird brought him home safely. A fine example of a very rare, original US Navy WW2 VBF-1 “ROYAL FLUSHERS” F4U CORSAIR FIGHTER PILOT ID’D AIR MEDAL RACK. Up for sale is a unique and rare WW1 medal. This medal reads “The Disabled Emergency Officers Of The World War” and is made of bronze. The medal is in fantastic condition for its age and comes with its original Presentation box. There is some very slight corrosion on the pin area of the medal, which is only really visible when looked at very closely. On the back of the medal it is inscribed “Captain William Graham Reynolds 2072″. Through some research online, (Screenshot Attached) I was able to find just one Captain William Graham Reynolds that served in WW1. Reynolds was in the 23rd Infantry Division and was deployed in France for some of his service in WW1. Looking at congressional records I determined that Reynolds was awarded the 2nd highest award in the United States Military – The Distinguished Service Cross. Reynolds got this award for his extraordinary heroism on October 4th 1918 near St. The record describes that he was severely injured and despite this was able to relay critical information to his successor, setting a positive example for his men. This record, and Reynolds severe injury, as well as the medal being for disabled Emergency officers leads me to believe that Reynolds was given the Disabled Emergency officers Medal specifically for the incident above. Don’t miss this opportunity to own a rare medal that is ID’d and documented with history! The item “Named and ID’d Disabled Emergency Officers Vintage WW1 Medal With Box! World War 1″ is in sale since Monday, July 10, 2017. This item is in the category “Collectibles\Militaria\WW I (1914-18)\Original Period Items\United States\Medals, Pins & Ribbons”.
