Trained at Sir Vale Hospital from 1903 to 1906 left 1907 with the position of Staff Nurse. Later employed Toxteth Park Institution, Liverpool on the Surgical and Medical wards as a Theater Sister. She was working at The Institution Hospital Stratton St. Margaret, Swindon, Wiltshire at the time of signing up for service with Queen Alexandra’s Imperial Military Nursing Service Reserve on 19/11/1915. Britannic struck a mine and sunk in just 55 minutes with the loss of 30 lives on 21/11/16. Mong her records is a request to marry Sergeant Thomas Ward 1st Division Australian Imperial Force while she was at No. 5 Reading War Hospital dated 18/3/16. Returning to Salonika in April 1917. Nurse Blakelock served with the 4th Canadian General Hospital as well as the 28th General Hospital while serving with the latter unit she contracted dysentery and was discharged unfit for duty on 11/9/17. She remained in Salonika and obviously recovered enough to return to duty with the 28th General Hospital in June 1918 on the 12/3/19 she departed Salonika for the UK via Taranto. Later she was demobilised on 20/3/19 her conduct was stated as Good and it also states This Staff Nurse has carried out a rather arduous duty extremely well, as regards Nursing and is suitable for promotion. The Dispersal certificate states her permanent address as Brooke Square, Connisborough, Yorkshire. Margaret Blakelock died on 1/8/1970 aged 88 in a nursing home in Thurston, Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk and is buried in the churchyard of St. It would appear that she never married.
