Rare original United States Navy Excellence in Gunnery medal in gold. HANCOCK in period engraving. Measures approximately 1 1/4 in diameter. The grand total weight, including medal, ribbon and pin back brooch is 16.4 grams. Not marked to gold content, but tests at 10k. There is an enameled E on the face. Reverse reads, To J. Hancock First Division of the U. Georgia in Memory of Lt. The ribbon and suspension are probably replacements since the catch is a barrel catch, and I don’t think those were around in 1915. Minor wear and storage marks. There is a little notch on the reverse of the medal at 4 oclock (see scan).
