Offered is an Afghanistan Medal (1878 80), 1 clasp PEIWAR KOTAL, period engraved 2202 P. Comes with copies Chelsea Pensioner records. Private James Wood, enlisted with the 2. Foot, (The Kings) on the 20/9/1872. The Battalion at the time was stationed in Malta until 1877 when it was posted to India. On the outbreak of the 2. Afghan war 1878 80, the Battalion was part of the Kurram Field Force and fought at the battle of Peiwar Kotal, November 1878. He discharged on the 15/2/1886. We list militaria and coins weekly. Offered is an original. British Army Crimean War medal pair to Private P. OBrien, 7th Regiment of Foot (Royal Fusiliers). Crimea Medal 1854-56, 3 clasps ALMA, INKERMAN & SEBASTOPOL, contemporarily engraved, PTE PHP OBRIEN. Turkish Crimea Medal 1855 un named as issued. Comes with copy medal roll, enlistment papers and (PDF research file available on request) 7th Royal Fusiliers in the Crimea by JP Kelleher. Philip OBrien was born Buttertown, Dublin in 1817. Enlisted into the 7th Regiment (Royal Fusiliers) 12/3/1839. Discharged 30/4/1855, after 16 years and 50 days service on medical grounds due to chronic ophthalmia (inflammation of the eye) contracted in America in 1849. His service records are poor, giving only the barest details. The medal rolls show he is positively entitled to clasps Alma & Inkerman, but it will be noted the rolls were intermittently made up and clasps cannot be always accurately recorded. 36mm wide circular silver medal with ornate scrolled swivel ribbon suspension bar with GOOJERAT & CHILIANWALA (see below for clasp entitlement) clasps; the face with the crowned head of Queen Victoria facing left, circumscribed VICTORIA REGINA and signed W. For William Wyon, R. Attributed on the edge in large impressed fashion to DRUM R W. M c Cullough, 29 TH FOOT. Medal comes with confirmation roll paperwork, showing 1698 Drummer McCullough served with the 29th Regiment of Foot (Worcestershire Regiment) during the Punjab Campaign and was invalided back to England on the 22nd August 1849, most likely due to disease, as many of these casualties were linked to. Rare to find a medal to a Regimental Drummer. The Punjab Medal was a campaign medal approved in 1849, for issue to officers and men of the British Army and Honourable East India Company who served in the Punjab campaign of 1848-49 operations which ended in the British annexation of the Punjab. The medal was approved on 2 April 1849, authourised for all who served in the Punjab between 7 September 1848 and 14 March 1849. Chilianwala: 13 January 1849. Awarded to troops under the command of Lord Gough who engaged with the Sikh army of Sher Singh and Lal Singh near Chilianwala. Goojerat: 21 February 1849. Awarded to troops under the command of Lord Gough who defeated the Sikh army of Sher Singh at Gujerat. We list militaria and coins weekly. 36mm wide circular silver medal with claw and ribbon bar suspension, with campaign bar’KANDAHAR’ the face with the veiled crowned head and shoulders of Queen Victoria facing left, circumscribed VICTORIA REGINA ET IMPERATRIX (Victoria Queen and Empress); the reverse with a column on the march in a mountainous landscape, an elephant bearing a cannon to the fore, circumscribed above AFGHANISTAN and dated 1878-79-80 below. Correct chisel engraved named in running script to 2122 PTE B WIGGLESWORTH 2/7TH FOOT ; on original ribbon. Small edge knock at 7 O’Clock. The medal was instituted on 19 March 1881 to be awarded to participants in the Second Afghan War of 1878 to 1880. The 2/7th Regiment of Foot served under Sir Frederick Roberts V. Being engaged in action, 1st Septemeber 1880 and also granted to those who took part in the reconnaissance of the city, 31 Ausgust 1880, but who did not take part in the attack the next day.
