Here we have a Fantastic WW2 Gallantry Military Medal Italy Fighting Action Gurkha Medal Group, A fantastic group of 6 loose medals, consisting of a WW2 Military medal correctly impressed to 45911 Naik Manbahadur Gurung 2/4 Ghurka Rifles, has a slight suspension repair, the other 5 medals appear to have been added and are not named, comes with a bit of research with a fantastic citation that reads thus. At 0200 hrs 13 Apr 1945 when the enemy was thought to be withdrawing from his positions in the ORTICA area, Naik Man Bahadur Gurung was ordered to take a patrol strength 1 and 4 to find out if Pt 362 was still held by the enemy. He led his section to the flank of Pt 362 and sent a pair of men on the feature to r. These men reported that there were sentries on the feature and between 40 – 50 others in the rear. By this time it was almost dawn and Naik Man Bahadur decided he could not get the information back and return to keep in touch with the enemy, before daylight. He therefore disposed his patrol in some nearby slit trenches. These proved to be between two enemy positions. Man Bahadur ordered his section to lie low till dark. At approx 1500 hrs the Italians sent a fighting patrol towards Pt 362. Naik Man Bahadur saw it and in spite of certain disclosure of his position, he waved his handkerchief as a warning to the patrol. He then directed the fire of his patrol against the enemy when then fired on him from three directions. At approx 1530 hrs an Italian Coy attack was put in on Pt 362. Naik Man Bahadur took over the Bren Gun and killed three Germans, Wounding several more, The attack was successful. Throughout the action Naik Man Bahadur displayed absolute fearlessness and dogged dertimination inspired his patrol and was without doubt largely responsible for the successful occupation of Pt 362 and subsequently ORTICA, places both strongly defended. This lovely medal group is a nice testament to many of the brave acts towards the end and during WW2 that were done by native troops in service to the Allied forces, Naik Gurungs is no exception! A perfect group for gallantry collectors, museums, dealers, displays, enthusiasts, lectures and much much more!
