Original Belgian Commando nr. 10 medal with 3 bars. During WW2 the Belgians where integrated inside the British Commando’s, called nr. 10 Inter Allied troop. They conducted combat missions in Italy, former Yougoslavia and the Dutch Island of Walcheren. Until this present day the 2nd Commando battalion, who inherited the traditions of nr. 10, have these 3 area’s of operations embroiled on there units flag. Only 107 of Belgian Commando’s where active during the war, so this medal is rare! This is not a copy but a real and very rare WW2 relic! An original World War Two and Naval Long Service Good Conduct medal awarded to a Corporal who served with the Royal Marines Commando. The group includes the following. Naval Long Service and Good Conduct Medal. The long service and good conduct medal is correctly named as follows. Corporal Raymond Frederick Ridge was awarded his long service and good conduct medal on 11th July 1957. The medals have been court mounted on a suspension bar for wear by the recipient. With original medal entitlement sheet showing full entitlement. Enlisted in the AIF 6/3/43. Killed in action 4/3/45 aged 20 at Arohemi, Aitape with the 2/9 Cavalry Commando Squadron. Buried Lae War Cemetery, Papua New Guinea. Very rare to the Commando Sqd. From the official history. This force set out on 4th March and soon encountered opposition. Five Japanese were killed on the way and Arohemi was found to be defended by a force (it was the III/239th Battalion) well dug in. An attack that day failed, Lieutenant Williams (9) and one trooper being killed. Williams, VX42397 ; 2/9 Cdo Sqn. Share broker’s clerk; of Melbourne ; b. Melbourne , 10 Jul 1918. Killed in action 4 Mar 1945. Although not mentioned by named the trooper referred to would be Pattern. Comes with a photo of his memorial plaque from a cemetery in Australia.
