WW1 Cased Military Cross Medal With Collar Badges. McMechan – Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers. A First World War Military Cross awarded to Captain J. McMechan of the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers dated 1917. The medal has its original ribbon and comes in its original presentation case which includes two Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers shoulder. The medal is inscribed to the reverse Capt. McMechan, Royal Inniskilling Fus, 1917. The medal and badges are of standard sizes. The set with case weighs 225g. The medal is in great condition with very minimal wear. The ribbon has some slight discolouration from age. The badges are in good condition. The case is in good order with a little wear to the outside and a pen mark to the inner silk. The Military Cross (MC) is a third-level British Armed Forces military decoration awarded in recognition of an act or acts of exemplary. Gallantry during active operations against the enemy on land. The Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers was an Irish line infantry regiment of the British Army in existence from 1881 until 1968. Was formed in 1881 by the amalgamation of the 27th (Inniskilling) Regiment of Foot and the 108th Regiment of Foot. It saw service in the Second Boer War, the First World War and the Second World War. In 1968 it was amalgamated with the other. Regiments in the North Irish Brigade, the Royal Ulster Rifles, and the Royal Irish Fusiliers (Princess Victoria’s) into the Royal Irish Rangers. Features a 48mm wide gilded silver cross patonce on Tudor crown suspension; the face with a circular central medallion imposed with the portrait of Britannia seated, her left arm extended, a radiant sun above right, within a ring inscribed FOR GOD AND THE EMPIRE; the reverse with a circular central medallion with the crowned cipher of King and Emperor George V within a rope border, silver hallmarks for Sebastian Henry Garrard of London, dated 1919, on correct mounted ribbon. Medal comes in the original Garrard & Co. As most wartime O. S were awarded in 1919, this is a perfect oppurtunity to fill the gap in your missing medal group or have as a stand alone wartime award piece. Offered is an original cased, Military issue of The Most Honourable Order of the Bath, Companion C. Features a silver-gilt and white enamel Maltese cross with ball-tipped finials, with a silver-gilt lion between each of the arms and with leaf-decorated fan and eyelet between the upper arms with ribbed ring for neck ribbon suspension; the face with a circular central white enamel medallion imposed bearing a gilt sceptre from which issue a rose (for England), a thistle (for Scotland) and a shamrock (for Ireland), red-enamel-lined gilt crowns above and to left and right below, within a red enamel ring inscribed in gilt letters TRIA JUNCTA IN UNO (three joined in one) within a green enamel and silver-gilt laurel wreath with amber and orange berries, a blue enamel ribbon below inscribed in gilt letters ICH DIEN (Old German = I serve), a gilt outline to each arm panel; the reverse identical; height (excluding suspension ring) 60mm , diameter 52mm; on correct full neck ribbon with hook and eye fastenings; in original fitted embossed leatherette case of issue by Spink & Son LTD of King Street, London, jewellers by appointment to Her Majesty the Queen, Duke of Edinburgh & Prince of Wales. The Order was instituted by King George I on 18 May 1725 and restructured in 1815 when the numbers of members increased and again in 1847 when a civil division was added. Membership is limited to citizens of the United Kingdom and of other Commonwealth countries of which the monarch is sovereign, though honorary awards may be made to prominent foreigners. 36 mm wide medal, ribbon and undress ribbon silver circular medal. The obverse bears the crowned head of King George VI surrounded by the legend GEORGIVS VI D:G. BR:OMN:REX ET INDIAE IMP. The reverse depicts a knight in full plate armour, standing feet apart, over his closed helmet, supporting a broken lance with his right arm. Standing facing him and to his left, a robed and veiled lady holding out to him a tankard. Above the inscription FOR SERVICE IN THE CAUSE OF FREEDOM and in the exergue THE KING’S MEDAL. The medal is supnded by a ring from a femalke ribbon bow, 31mm in width being white with three narrow verticle stripes – blue at each side and red in the centre. The obverse was designed by Percy Metcalf and the reverse is thought to be the work of T H Paget. Medal comes in the original leatherette award case, with pebbled outer with gilt border with gilt lettering:’KING’S MEDAL FOR SERVICE’, maker stamped ROYAL MINT to silken interior. Awards to females are scarce. This medal was instituted in August 1945 for civilian service to the Allied cause. Only foreign nationals were eligible. The first such award was made to Mr Winthrop Aldrich, for his work as national president of the British War Relief Society in the USA.
