Lot of 7 Original British Medals and Ribbons with 8 clasps awarded to Private A. The medals and ribbons include Queen’s Sudan Medal, Queen’s South Africa Medal with 3 State clasps, King’s South Africa Medal with 2 clasps, WW1 1914 Star with “5th Aug-22nd Nov 1914″ bar, British War Medal, The Victory Medal and 1897 Khedive’s Sudan Medal with 2 clasps. 1 Queen’s Sudan Medal is in silver and was awarded British and Egyptian forces which took part in the Sudan campaign between 1896 and 1898. No clasps were awarded. Around the rim is the recipient’s information 4229 Pte A. 2 Queen’s South Africa Medal which is also in silver with 3 State clasps- Transvaal, Orange Free State and Cape Colony. This medal was awarded to British and Colonial military personnel and civilians employed in official capacity who served in the Second Boer War in South Africa from 11 October 1899 to 31 May 1902. The rim of this medal is noted 4229 PTE A. Bennett 2 Sea Highrs. The Transvaal clasp was awarded to all troops in the South African Republic at any time between 24 May 1900 and 31 May 1902 who had not received a clasp for a specific action. The Orange Free State clasp was awarded to all troops who were in this area between 28 Feb 1900 and 31 May 1902 who had not received a clasp for a specific action in the Orange Free State. Cape Colony clasp was awarded to all troops in the Cape of Good Hope at any time between 11 Oct 1899 and 31 May 1902 who had not received a clasp for a specific action in the Cape of Good Hope or the “Natal” clasp. 3 Kings South Africa Medal in silver with 2 clasps, South Africa 1901 and South Africa 1902. The King’s South Africa medal was awarded to all British and Colonial military personnel who served in the Second Boer War in South Africa and who were in the theatre on or after 1 Jan 1902 and who had completed 18 months of service in the conflict prior to 1 June 1902. This medal was always paired with the Queen’s South Africa medal, it was never awarded singly. Around the rim of the Kings South Africa medal is engraved 4229 Pte A. The “South Africa 1901″ clasp was awarded to all troops who served in S. Africa between 1 Jan. 1901 and 31 Dec. 1901 while the “South Africa 1902″ clasp was awarded to all troops who served in S. 1902 and 31 May 1902. 4 1914 Star medal (Mons Star) and “5thAug-22Nov 1914″ bar both in bronze. The 1914 Star Medal was awarded to those served in a theatre of war during 1914. The “5thAug-22Nov 1914″ bar was awarded to all those who were “under fire” in France or Belgium during those dates. The reverse side of the star is engraved 3/7553 PRT:A. 5 The silver British War Medal which was awarded to a member of the fighting forces who had to leave his native shore in any part of the British Empire while on service. The rim of this medal is engraved 3/7353 PTE. The service number is slightly different on the 1914 Star Medal from the British War Medal for Private Bennett. 6Bronze The Victory Medal which was awarded to all who entered into a theatre of war. The rim on this medal is engraved 3/7353 PTE. HIGHRS The same engraving as noted on the silver War Medal. 7 The silver Khedive’s Sudan Medal (1897) and 2 clasps. This medal was established in 1897 and was awarded by the Khedivate of Egypt for service during the Mahdist War in Sudan. The rim of this medal is engraved 3229 A. BENNETT 1st SEA HIGHRS. Additional photos are available upon request. Total weight of the ribbons, clasps, medals and rear pin is 307 grams. As noted in the photos, the ribbons show some soiling and wear. Offered is a swing mounted as worn medal group of 8 to James Jones, who served in both the British Army during WW1 and Royal Navy during WW2. 1914-15 Star, impressed named to 50928, DVR. British War and Victory Medals, impressed named to 50928 DVR. 1939-45 Star; Atlantic Star; Defence and War Medals 1939-45 (last 4 un-named as issued); Royal Naval Reserve L. 1st issue, impressed named to 211 E. James Ernest George Jones was born in Plymouth, Devon, in July 1898. He enlisted at the age of 18 at Plymouth 19th September 1914 and served during the Great War with the Royal Engineers on the Western Front from 5 July 1915 with the 18th (Eastern Division) Signal Company. Included is a copy of his service record (burnt record type). After the war he was employed as a fisherman, and also joined the Royal Naval Reserve at Milford Haven in February 1924. He was awarded his R. Jones was mobilised as an Engineman with the outbreak of the Second World War, and after postings to Chatham and H. Eaglet at Liverpool, he was posted to the trawler Lady Beryl in October 1939. Jones went with the Lady Beryl to operate out of Trinidad in June 1944. He was demobilized in December 1945. This is most appreciated. A very nice WW2 Canadian British Empire Medal Grouping with Memorial Crosses, Birks Memorial Bars, Medals and Badges to the McDONOUGH Brothers. D7685 Staff Sergeant Gordon Patrick McDONOUGH, Royal Canadian Artillery. Group is Court Mounted and Plated by William Scully. The BEM is properly impressed and includes the 1939-45 Star, France & Germany Star, Defence Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Overseas Clasp and the 1939-45 War Medal. Note the miniature BEM is loose on the ribbon and requires secured fastening. Also includes an RCA Cap Badge and RCA cloth title. George VI Memorial Cross and Birks Memorial Bar to. D132965 Private Lester Joseph McDONOUGH, Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry Highlanders, with issue papers, box and case. Also included, 1939-45 Star, France & Germany Star, Defence Medal (Silver), Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Overseas Clasp (Silver), and 1939-45 War Medal (Silver), with boxes, and a SD&GH Cap Badge. Lester was asphyxiated by a dugout cave in. D175572 Private Leonard Donald McDONOUGH, Hastings & Prince Edward Regiment with issue papers, box and case. Also with 1939-45 Star, Italy Star, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Overseas Clasp (Silver), and 1939-45 War Medal (Silver), with boxes. Please note that there is NO Italy Star box. Also a H&PE Cap and Collar badges. Leonard was Killed in Action. Groupings also includes Catholic Religious Medals and a WW2 brown plastic/bakelite cross. Copies of Service Records to each of the brothers are also included. I have other images available, mainly of service records, if required. Here’s an interesting little lot. All items are the former possession’s of Charles S Wilson, who served for the Royal Corps of Signals during WW2. At the time he was living at Clifton, Penrith in Cumberland (Cumbria). Africa star medal – Missing Eighth army clasp, or the ribbon has been replaced. An original photograph of Charles (X marked above his head) with some of his comrades – On the reverse it has To Muriel with best love from C. W 2.11.40 – Photograph has a crease line. Charles National Identity card stamped 1945 and his wife’s national identity card stamped 1943. See my other militaria currently for sale and I add new items on a regular basis.
