Offered is an original 1908-35 India General Service Medal. 36mm wide circular silver medal with claw and ornate scroll swivel ribbon bar with original. &’WAZIRISTAN 1921 24′ clasps; the face with the crowned head and shoulders portrait of King George V facing left in coronation robes, circumscribed GEORGIUS V KAISAR-I-HIND (George V Emperor of India); the reverse with a view of Jamrud Fort and the entrance to the Khyber Pass, inscribed INDIA on a plaque below with oak and laurel branches to either side; impressed named on rim to 804 SEPOY PAHLWAN, 1/151-SIKH. On the correct ribbon. The medal was instituted on 1 January 1909 for service in campaigns on Indias borders. 1919 clasp was awarded for service in that area during the Third Afghan War from 6 May to 8 August 1919 & theWaziristan 1921-24 clasp for service in Waziristan between 21 December 1921 and 31 March 1924. 36mm wide circular silver medal with claw and ribbon bar suspension, with campaign bar’ALI MUSJID’ the face with the veiled crowned head and shoulders of Queen Victoria facing left, circumscribed VICTORIA REGINA ET IMPERATRIX (Victoria Queen and Empress); the reverse with a column on the march in a mountainous landscape, an elephant bearing a cannon to the fore, circumscribed above AFGHANISTAN and dated 1878-79-80 below. Correct chisel engraved named in running script to 1235 P TE J. B N RIFLE B DE ; on original ribbon. The medal was instituted on 19 March 1881 to be awarded to participants in the Second Afghan War of 1878 to 1880. Joseph Pratt was born in Loughborough in 1841, enlisting for service with the Leicestershire Militia in June 1859, transferring for regular service with the Rifle Brigade on the 22nd June 1860. Up until 1868 he was of’good character’ as a soldier, from this point onwards, he is shown to have been absent, confined to Barracks or in the’Cells by order of the C. , culminating in his desertion in July 1870, to which he was tried and imprisoned. Frequent absences throughout the rest of the 1870′s, with service in Gibraltar 1863-65, Canada in 1865-67 and India/Afghanistan 1873 to 1881. Discharged on the 10th January 1882, having served 21 years and 56 days. Private Pratt would not have been entitled to his Long Service & Good Conduct Medal, for obvious reasons… We list militaria and coins weekly. 36mm wide circular silver medal with claw and ribbon bar suspension, with campaign bar’KANDAHAR’ the face with the veiled crowned head and shoulders of Queen Victoria facing left, circumscribed VICTORIA REGINA ET IMPERATRIX (Victoria Queen and Empress); the reverse with a column on the march in a mountainous landscape, an elephant bearing a cannon to the fore, circumscribed above AFGHANISTAN and dated 1878-79-80 below. Correct chisel engraved named in running script to 2122 PTE B WIGGLESWORTH 2/7TH FOOT ; on original ribbon. Small edge knock at 7 O’Clock. The medal was instituted on 19 March 1881 to be awarded to participants in the Second Afghan War of 1878 to 1880. The 2/7th Regiment of Foot served under Sir Frederick Roberts V. Being engaged in action, 1st Septemeber 1880 and also granted to those who took part in the reconnaissance of the city, 31 Ausgust 1880, but who did not take part in the attack the next day.
