WW 1 Officer’s British War Medal. Captain W G Harker. 8th Battalion Hampshire Regiment. World War 1 campaign medal: British War Medal. The full size silver medal is on a short length of original ribbon. Captain Harker served with the 8th Battalion Hampshire Regiment. He was appointed Captain as of 9th August 1917. He relinquished his commission on account of ill health caused by wounds on 18th April 1919 and retained the rank of Captain. Announced in the London Gazette 15th April 1919. Copies of Gazette entries with the medal. Very good age toned condition and with scope for further research. The medals are all original, period and in good condition and would have been awarded to the same recipient. The medals have been sown onto a strip of black material. HAROLD ARTHUR CRUICKSHANK 2ND BN ROYAL SCOTS FUSILIERS WHO DIED OF WOUND RECEIVED AT THE BATTLE OF LOOS FRANCE ON 28TH SEPTEMBER 1915. HE WAS BORN IN SOUTH AFRICA IN 1892 AND EDUCATED AT ROBERT GORDONS COLLEGE ABERDEEN. HE WENT TO GLASGOW UNIVERSITY AND STUDIED MEDICINE FROM 1911 UNTIL 1914. HE WAS A MEMBER OF THE SCHOOL OFFICER TRAINING CORPS. HE WAS COMMISSIONED A 2ND LT ON 15TH AUGUST 1914. HE WAS ATTACHED TO THE 2ND BN SCOTS FUSILIERS ENTERING FRANCE ON 1ST JAN 1915. HAROLD WAS WOUNDED AT HULLUCH ON 27TH OF SEPTEMBER 1915 DURING THE FIERCE FIGHTING AT BATTLE OF LOOS DYING OF HIS WOUNDS THE NEXT DAY AT 22 YRS OF AGE. HE IS BURIED AT BETHUNE TOWN CEMETERY.
