Butler served in Sub Group One and aboard the Jeep Carriers USS Corregidor, USS Tripoli, Fighter Squadron 31 in the Korean War and Air Transport Squadron Ten (VR 10) during WWII. His full career requires further research. His ribbons and three loose medals were separated from the main group. Discharge document to George Butler, CS2 dated 27 Aug 56. Discharge document to George Butler, SIC dated 29 Apr 46. He was awarded The Victory Medal, American Area Service Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Area Medal. Massy Co of the Tripoli, one dated 26 Oct 55 as part of Fighter Squadron 31, one dated 11 Jun 46 for Fighter Squadron 31. Promotion Document to Commissaryman Third Class dated 16 May 53 while serving aboard the USS Tripoli. US Navy Certification of completion for Correspondence course dated 19 Jan 53 & US Navy Certificate of Completion for NTSch (Cooks & Bakers) dated 12 Feb 44. Two 8 x 10 b/w photos including a deck shot of the USS Corregidor and helicopters flying from CVHA-1, USS Thetis Bay (formerly CVE-90), Anzio class. Carries up to 1000 troops. Sewn Medal Bar for the Navy Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, and the United Nations Service Medal. VR-10 was commissioned at Honolulu in 1943 and was primarily a maintenance squadron. During the Korean War she carried men, aircraft and aviation cargo to NATO countries and Korea. During the Korean War she carried F-84 Thunderjets to Korea. Fighter Squadron 31 “Tomcatters, ” whose patch is based on Felix the Cat flew the F2H Banshee during the 1950′s. Medals, documents, photos show normal wear/tear associated with age. Medals are sewn for wear on dress uniform. Documents show fading, yellowing from wear. May have fold lines, creasing. Estate lot of identified WW2 memorabilia of veteran of the 80th Division reconnaissance serving at the BATTLE OF THE BULGE , dog tags and chain , visor cap and overseas cap with infantry piping, photos and papers for award of medal and discharge information. WW2 cased PURPLE HEART MEDAL with ribbon bar for veteran wounded in action WIA on CHRISTMAS EVE 1944. A large piece of shrapnel is part of the lot and was removed from veterans chest and lung. The piece of metal was kept as a war memento. A pretty ugly reminder of war and also of the way the GREATEST GENERATION rose above adversity and carried on in life. GROSS served as a Boy Scout leader in Brookfield Ma. Also there is a boxed ww2 victory medal, military whistle and chain , military CIB Combat Infantryman’s Badge pin and US and INFANTRY collar brass. Here is a well documented named WW2 grouping from a WM that served in the Marine Corps from July 1943 to December 1945. Post WW2 she had a full career in the Air Force. Included with this are the following items. Alpha uniform with ribbons and insignia. The EGAs on the jacket and the hat are brass, yes I know they should be bronze. That is how it came. The skirt has a small repaired area. The talon zipper works fine. Waist measures 29 inches. The jacket measures 38 inches in the bust. Measured pit to pit. There is no mothing on the skirt or jacket. They are both wrinkled from being in storage for years. The hat was made by Knox. It has her name stamped in it. I counted three moth holes, two on the top and one next to the EGA. Medals WW2 Victory, National Defence, American Campaign, and Air Force Achievement. Bible with steel cover plate. WW2 USMC Certificate of Service. Recommendation for promotion, dated 1944. 4 page humorous paper on “Characteristics of a BAM”. 2 page humorous paper on the discharge point system. 2 page write up on the Magnificient Amphibians, Marines. 4 page balled of Wake Island. Marine Corps Womens Reserve Camp Lejuene and New River N. 4 editions of the Quantico Sentry Newspaper. August 9, 16, 23, and 30 1945. Award documentation from when she was in the Air Force.
