This sale includes the size 36R Ike jacket (no moth damage) with the red D-Day stripe down the center of 1 piece 82nd Airborne patch, it also retains its 508th PIR oval and the Belgian Fourragere. It did not have the parachute wings or ribbon bars when I aquired it from his family. Also included is the piece of a camo parachute appx 55″x55″ at its widest points, it is not square. His boxed, un-named GC medal, a cloth tag with his initial s and last name, a few clippings with 508th mentioned, 2 pieces of Vmail and a letter witten on July 27, 1945. Mr Detroit jumped into France in the D-Day invasion, Holland in Operation Market Garden, fought into Belgium and the Battle of the Bulge. This is truly a nice grouping. Offered is a medal group to Stoker 1. Class Jones, who served in WW2 on HMS Mauritius 14/12/1940- 3/11/45. He served during the landings in Sicily, (Operation Husky) Salerno landings (Operation Avalanche) came under air attacks including FX1400 and Glider Bombs, the Anzio landings (Operation Shingle) D Day Normandy covered the landings as part of Force D off Sword Beach, Bombarded Houlgate and Merville Battery during assault on SWORD Beach & Hit by counter battery fire. He was also engaged in several naval actions sinking and damaging German Destroyers & Vorpostenboote. 1939 Star, Atlantic Star with France & Germany clasp, Pacific Star, Italy Star, Defence Medal 1939 -45 & Royal Fleet Reserve Long service & Good Conduct Medal (King George V) impressed named SS123197 CH. Court mounted for display. Comes with copies service papers, medal rolls & extensive research on H. Was born on the 7/3/1902 at Rotherhithe, London. He signed on to the Royal Navy as a Short service stoker on the 18/6/1919. He served on several ships and shore postings including: H. S Pembroke II, Yarmouth, H. S Tiger (Battlecruiser) H. S Lion (Battlecruiser) H. S Vindictive (Troop Transport) H. S Triad (A yacht hired for use by the Royal Navy used by Senior Naval Officer, Persian Gulf). On the 7/3/1925 he transferred to the Royal Fleet Reserve. S Valorous (V-class flotilla leader Destroyer) 24/8/1939 29/5/940. (Colony Class light Cruiser) 14/12/1940- 13/11/45. She joined the Eastern Fleet in 1942, but was withdrawn in April 1943 to reinforce the Mediterranean Fleet. Participated in the landings in Sicily, (Operation Husky). In September she was part of the covering force for the Salerno landings. But by the end of the year had been transferred to the Bay of Biscay to carry out anti-blockade-runner patrols, as part of Operation Stonewall. In June 1944 she covered the landings in Normandy as part of Force D off Sword Beach. Operating with destroyers, she sank Sperrbrecher 157 on 14/15 August and during the battle of Battle of Audierne Bay sank five Vorpostenboote. On the night of 27/28 January 1945, in company with the cruiser Diadem, she fought the Action of 28 January 1945 with German destroyers in which Z31 was badly damaged. Following this action, she was refitted at Cammell-Laird’s between February 1945 and March 1946. He was discharged 13/11/1945. We list militaria and coins weekly. This grouping belonged to an identified 507th PIR E Company Private that was captured on June 6, 1944 and remained at Stalag 4B until June 12, 1945. Included is his unnamed slot brooch Bronze Star and unnamed, unnumbered PH. Has his pin back sterling marked jump wings and a pair of sterling marked pin back sweetheart jump wings. World War Two Military Medal and Territorial. Medal group to a Staff Sergeant from the Royal Army. Corps who was with the 9th Durham Light Infantry on D-Day and who won his Military Medal on the evening of the 6th June 1944 near Bayeux. He also managed to escape from being a prisoner of the Germans on the same day! The Military Medal – correctly named 7348967 S. The Africa Star with 8th Army Bar. The France and Germany Star. Territorial Forces Medal – correctly named 7348967 S. The medals are all mounted on their original suspension bar. Was born on 19th May 1912 in Newcastle Upon Tyne. With the 1st Durham Infantry Brigade of the 50th North Division as part of 30 Corps. He would have landed with the 9th Durham Light Infantry onto Gold Beach. His recommendation for the immediate award of his Military Medal is as follows. On the night of 6 / 7 June 1944 S/Sgt Chipchase was with the 9th Bn Durham Light Infantry with a section of his company in the area of Bayeux. He Continued to attend to casualties whilst under heavy fire, even when a fighting patrol of the enemy penetrated to within 20 yards of his post. His leadership and the example set were beyond all praise. Later in the day S/Sgt. Chipchase became a prisoner of a party of the enemy, but after a short while affected his escape and rejoined his section and continued to attend all casualties in the area. The award was recommended by Lieutenant Colonel S. R Trick of the R. And confirmed by Major General Douglas A H Graham as Commander 50 Division and Lieutenant General Gerard Bucknall, Commander of 30 Corps. The award was published in the London Gazette on 19th October 1944. The Territorial Efficiency Medal was confirmed as awarded in February 1947.
