Alvin Cullum York [1887 1964] better known as Sergeant York was one of the most decorated American solders during World War I who was awarded the Medal of Honor. Sergeant York received his award for his actions during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive in France. During the offensive Sergeant York lead an attack on a German machine gun nest which resulted in the destruction of the machine gun nest, the recovery of 32 machine guns, the killing of 20 German solders and the capture of 132 others. The document is a check drawn upon the Union Bank, Jamestown, Tenn, dated Jan 26, 1937 and is signed”Sgt.
