This is a really interesting group of 5 items all of which relate to one another…. I have NO other medals to these 2 men.. But there have been others issued from what I my researcher has found out on the internet… So a BIG thank you to Barry for his research on this group. So you will see 4 First World Medals… And a circular PASS TOKEN. Three of the medals have been awarded to one gentleman and the single to his brother…. The pass token is related to Ralph with the trio of medals. This is a 1914 – 1918 War Medal with ribbon which is loose… It has the edge engraved with. The trio of medals… The ribbon tops have been sewn over… The 1914-15 STAR is engraved. The other two WAR & VICTORY medals have differant engraved wording… The pass token is related to this chap R. This PASS TOKEN is a RARE item for anyone into artists & portrait paintings….. It says on the front. ROYAL ACADEMY ANTIQUE SCHOOL 1768. Admitted 1st Term of 3 Years, 26th Jan’y 1909 R. These two men R. Longstaff – Ralph & J. Longstaff – Jack Campbell were brothers and their father was Sir John Campbell Longstaff. Jack Campbell Longstaff a 2nd Lieut of the 1st/5th Bn York & Lancaster Regiment…. Is found on the Thiepval Memorial index…. And I have the info of his Rolls index and it says on the 7/7/ 16 MISSING.. The correspondence address is to (father) J. Longstaff Esq, 16 Marlborough Hill, St Johns Wood, London. As well as that I have the info of the 1911 England Census for Jack Longstaff… Before the First World War , then younger sisters and brother DOROTHY – FRANK – EDITH HARRIS…. Interesting it has the BIRTHPLACE for all of them too… All being born in VICTORIA – AUSTRALIA apart from Ralph he was born in FRANCE and the last two siblings were born in LONDON. Also info from the WW I medals index shows that Ralph Longstaff of the 28 London Regiment a Private and his number 2070… Then he was in the E. YORKSHIRE REGIMENT and was now a CAPTAIN 2/10/15.. As well as other info which Im not sure what it all means…. Also from the supplement to the London Gazette… Being a non comm officer of the London Regiment (Territorial Force) he got to be Temp Second Lieut in the East Yorkshire Regiment… Then following this thru January 1st 1917 he became Temp CAPTAIN and was awarded the. This medal I do not have… It was not with this group of items… Now just going to their father Sir John Campbell Longstaff 1861 – 1941…. A very FAMOUS portrait artist in his own right.. And appointed official WAR ARTIST during the First World War for the Australian Infantry Force…. He was born in Australia and his family came from England somewhere in WEARDALE.
